Rivers of Blood

by Blagovesta Doncheva | Al-Jazeerah.Info | ď?Ē

In far away
Fallujah
children are dying,
holding hands
with mothers
and sisters,
with brothers
and fathersÖ

And our souls
are dying
with them

Who of us shed,
helplessly trembling,
a tear?

Who-in sheer despair!
hit a forehead
on a stone wall,
gripped by pity-
or, at least, by fear?

Who,
choked in
the Rivers of Blood,
rushed to streets
and to squares
to plead for mercy-
to shout a threat?

My people???

The Beast is there
keeps slaughtering
men and women
just like you,
and just like me!

Donít you hear
the fearsome rumbling?
Donít you see
the rivers of our blood
coming at us,
roaring, tumbling?

These blood-soaked days
youíve lived away
as all your other days-
and they were
drowned
in blood!
You celebrated-
You made love-

Oh, you silent witnesses
Of the Beastís
Rivers of Blood!

The Requital Day
will come!
God you pray to
will turn
His back on you!

Stunned Earth will shake,
and bottomless abyss
will thirstily
gape!

And Hell will swallow
your unworthy,
mean,
narrow
world
in flames
and
in rape!

Nobody can build
a life of his own
amidst Rivers of Blood!

My people
