A Ph.D. in interpreting or translation is required. Applicants with a PhD in other related disciplines and with practical translation or interpreting experience will also be considered. Competence to teach in English is expected. Native or near native Chinese speakers are preferred.

2.) Full-time Assistant/Associate/Full Professors of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) [Please pass this information to your colleagues or friends]
A Ph.D. in EFL teaching is required. Native English speakers with teaching experience are preferred.

Description of post: The Department of Translation & Interpreting of Izmir University of Economics, Izmir, Turkey is pleased to announce a tenure-track or visiting position for professors in its undergraduate program.

To be appointed as a Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor, applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline with substantial teaching experience, and a research record with scholarly publications, and academic achievement.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of quality teaching in at least two of the followings: linguistics and translation, comparative language and culture studies, translation technology, terminology management, translation theory, translation criticism, subject specific translation (A good command of Turkish is required for this course). A full command of English for this purpose is expected, but knowledge of Turkish is not necessary, but desirable. Title of post: UCL/Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellows Programme (2006-2012) - Translations/Transpositions: Old and New Models of Translation

Description of post: With funding from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation, UCL intends to appoint six Post-Doctoral Fellows, each for a two-year term, across a six year period, to research into the following themes (the first of these is for the 2006-2008 appointment):

1. Old and new models of translation;
2. Migration and non-mother tongue writing;
3. 'Intergeneric' translation;
4. 'Intermedia' translations (i.e. literary works 'translated' or transported into films, operas, art works, etc);
5. Translation as dissemination: museums and their audiences.

The Mellon Fellows will be attached to the department of their main discipline, but will be expected to function in a broad inter-Departmental
and inter-Faculty way in their research.

Applications are invited now for the first Mellon Fellow to work on the first theme: 'Old and new models of translation'. The salary, including London Weighting, will be GBP 27,286 per annum. Fellows are expected to teach up to a maximum of four hours per week. The Fellowship is available from September 2006.

Department of Translation

The Translation Programme sets out to provide an education in bilingual studies which can produce graduates with competence in Chinese and English as well as a capacity to think for themselves. One of its central features is the equal emphasis on translation as a profession and as an academic discipline. Another feature is the importance attached to the socio-cultural environment of the Chinese and English languages. The appointee will be required to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: translation, interpreting, linguistics, translation and culture. Excellent command of Chinese and English is a must, and experience of teaching translation (both theory and practice), interpreting, or comparative literature/linguistics will be an advantage. For appointment as a Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor, applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in the relevant discipline with teaching experience and research records. For appointment as a Professor, applicants should have substantial research and teaching experience with significant scholarly publications and academic achievement. For appointment as an Associate Professor, applicants should normally have five years of relevant experience and a sound track record of teaching and research and scholarly activities.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential. Administrative experience will be a distinct advantage. The successful appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community. All appointees are also expected to engage actively in quality research.
 
Conditions of Appointment:
The monthly salary is in the following approximate ranges: Professor - HK$67,600 to HK$88,000; Associate Professor - HK$55,200 to HK$72,700; Assistant Professor - HK$40,600 to HK$64,000. Appointment rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, where applicable, include annual leave, medical benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
 
Appointment will initially be made on a fixed-term contract normally of three years, which is renewable subject to mutual agreement and budgetary considerations. After appointment, for those appointed at the rank of Professor/Associate Professor, fast-tracked substantiated (tenured) appointment may be considered exceptionally in the case of appointees with outstanding performance and ability.
